Val Troncea Natural Park

THE STORY

The Laval Mill is named after the historic Laval Mill, an old mill in the Mulino di Laval, where rye was ground when the nearby hamlets were still inhabited.

The mill also remained active as a sawmill until the early post-war period, when it was abandoned in the mountains.

Located upstream of Pragelato, in Val Chisone, the Laval Mill is one of the 'gateways' to the Val Troncea Natural Park, an authentic alpine paradise also known as the 'valley of flowers'..

In a setting of enchanting beauty, visitors can immerse themselves in a landscape scenery characterised by larch and hooked pine forests with undergrowth of rhododendron, juniper, blueberry and green alder, which in September and October offer a spectacular foliage.

There are numerous birds of prey alongside the typical fauna species, ranging from the chamois, the recently reintroduced ibex, to the undisputed king of the area, his majesty the deer, whose lustful roaring enchants the valley in October.

WHERE WE ARE

The refuge is located at 1670m above sea level at the entrance to the Troncea valley. We are located just outside the boundaries of the Val Troncea Natural Park, which belongs to the Alpi Cozie Parks and allows us to experience a completely preserved nature rich in flora and fauna. Easily reached on foot or by bicycle during the summer season, with snowshoes or cross-country skis in winter, the refuge is owned and managed by the Ente Parchi Alpi Cozie and run by Luca, Alessandra and their staff. The hut is located on the ring of the cross-country track and near the paths marked out by the Park Guards for walkers. In winter, as it overlooks the Pragelato Olympic cross-country skiing track, it is subject to check-in and check-out time constraints, which are to be agreed with the managers.
